Chapter 9
They ran down the dark street, nervous for what lurked watching them run in the shadows. They could sense that this beast was somehow watching them' and its nature of darkness, it controlled whatever moved within it.
The creature which had killed three in one night had enough, enough to let the rest pass by it whilst watching them intently, tormentingly. It was like something breathing down your neck even though it wasnât there. Its scent was musk in the dark as it never left or that it left its presence in it.
Cam was ahead of the pack as he led the team along the dark road, stepping onto the pavement of Zachâs home. Erin was close behind, her legs lunged up over the curb and onto the grass, aside of the straight pavement which led up to the front door. Jean and Alex were close behind, Alex checking the back of the pack as he stepped up onto the pavement. Cam leaped up onto the tattered porch, the sensitivity light coming on from underneath it to keep the small group safe. It buzzed, flying insects hovering around it as if it were its life source.
As the rest joined Cam, looking back out into the dark street, seeing the very same patrol car in the distance and the blood which coiled over it as Cam breached the door open.
The crime scene was left behind them, distorted memories and a painful killer which cruelly hid away. The door opened freely; he was gifted by a blazing light which rested on a small table top. The lamp which filled the entire, emptied room struck well against any other they had seen all night.
The room was silent, the dust falling into the calm air yet the room was slovenly disrupted with left overs. The party was over, the front room was cleared of all people, but trashed with empty bottles, spillage of alcohol, discarded wrappers of food and tossed buds with smoke still coming out of them were left behind.
The group formed up around the tattered and ripped sofa, the centre island which rested between the fireplace and the sofa was filled with ash trays and bottles which were clearly swept away by the hands of Alex Vatrano. The glass bottle and half emptied cans fell to the ground, causing and up-roar rattle which would have woken up the entire house. And that it did, from the dark arch that opened to another room, the figure of Zach Mckenna had come out to greet them. The look of shock was sprawled upon his face, his eyes connected with Cams as he came over with his arms out for a hug.
âYouâre safe!â Zach stated as he held the hug over his tear-filled eyes yet remained firm. As soon as Zach could see the sweaty and blood-soaked group, he had known that they had seen the creature. Zach had seen those worried, concerned eyes before in someone, since his reactions had changed in the hug.
He let go, stepping back to look what was left of the group.
